A review of Maplin Electronics by Jayson Keable written on Sunday 20th of June 2004
Hi, I’m a technical sales assistant from the Newcastle store. If you live in the aria, come check out the improved store, we just made it loads bigger.
Maplin Electronics select their employees with great care. Rather than hiring any regular Joe and then training them once they’ve started (it would take years to fully train a person that way and they still wouldn’t end up with the knowledge we actually have), they only hire technical staff who have years of experience in a skilled trade such as an engineer, computer expert, IT expert, DJ/sound manager, communications expert, extra. However, a member of staff who has been an electronics engineer for 25 years can’t be expected to know much about customer service. To overcome this problem, Maplin electronics have made a conscious decision to train all their staff in customer services to be even more helpful to the customer.
The only tip I have for a customer coming into a Maplin store is, once you’ve asked for our advice, please take it. You have no idea how insulting it is when someone comes in asking for help and they think we’re talking a heap of rubbish. We know our stuff!!!
