A review of Bangkok City by Nick written on Saturday 10th of April 2004
I have eaten here once on recommendation from Thai friends in Cambridge. I've spent a good deal of time in Thailand myself and I have to say that the food was both tasty and authentic. My one real quibble on taste is that it was pathetically spicy (even for this country’s standards) if I go again I will be sure to ask (in Thai) for it to be made spicier and it should then be excellent. Apart from the spiciness it’s some of the most authentic Thai food I’ve had outside Thailand.
No problems with the service at all. Waitresses were very pleasant and the food arrived in reasonable time. It was busy when I went with only one table unoccupied which was filled while we were there (definitely need to book).
It was, however, expensive. The portions are small for what you are paying (which is not cheap anyway – we had a main course only for 3 people with only two drinking and it cost £45) but a nice treat. If you are drinking there the wines are excellent value and reasonably priced.
Decor was fine (some pretty things) but a bit cramped and overall fairly not noteworthy either way.
Overall a great little Thai place, that I would visit again and recommend to others.
