A review of Golden Hind by Science Park Worker written on Friday 13th of February 2004
I too have recently visited this pub. Some mates and i dropped in for a drink and food, a couple of weeks ago on a wednesday lunchtime.
We were impressed by the pub itself, as the other reviewer says, it has so much potential. there was only 1 bar staff working the day we were in and the pub was very busy - why only 1 girl working? she was obviously under pressure as it was so busy but she still found time to smile and was very polite - been a long time since i was called sir :~)
We ordered food, and yes they do sell more than just cheeseburgers, we asked for jacket potatoes instead of chips and were assured this wasn't a problem, so ask if you want something other than chips.
We found out from chatting to 1 of the regulars sitting at the bar (no they don't bite and they are not all rif raf) that there are 2 cooks, one works weeks and the other works weekends, we were told the weekend cook is the good cook and the regulars avoid the food in the week - so take a tip from those who know!
The food took a while to come and was ok but nothing great but the service was good and we will be going back on a weekend to see if things are the same then. Not a bad pub all round, one of the best in the locale!!.
