A review of Arjuna Wholefoods by John written on Sunday 8th of December 2013
A great source of organic ingredients, fruits, nuts, flours, herbs and spices, vegetables etc with lots of hard-to-find items. Unusual and delicious locally-produced breads; sourdoughs, rye, kammut, spelt and others from Dovecote and Cobbs bakeries. There is also a wide selection of fancily-presented chocolates, cakes and so on typical of many health-food shops.
The shop is crowded and staff are very friendly and helpful.
Baked goods are variable in a 'I'm a vegetarian and don't know how to cook' way; sometimes good, sometimes glaring flaws. A generous Bakewell tart had a tiny amount of raspberry jam and a greasy heavy undercooked sponge with very little almonds or sugar. I don't know where you can find a recipe like this but I think you'd have to look very hard. What's worse is that they think this disaster is OK..
