A review of The Perse Upper School by B written on Thursday 11th of October 2012
I think that the perse is a really good school in terms of it's academic results and the school's competitive ethos is one of the main reasons that it gains such good results. In some schools people who get really good results are often mocked and feel isolated but at the perse the opposite is often true. People will make fun of others for being stupid or not doing well. Some think that this puts too much pressure on students but there are plenty of support systems in place and the pressure is not over the top. When people say that perse students are posh or stuck up it really annoys me because there might be some people at the school who think they are better than everyone but that isn't true aboutl. In fact there are maybe a few people in the year who are actually like this. In terms of st.faiths or any other school being less stuck up I would say that at every school there will be people who think they are better than everyone for whatever reason but that it can't really be helped and most people at perse don't really care about that kind of thing. I agree about the banter that occurs in the school. However it happens everywhere. I went to st.faiths before and the banter that went on there was pretty bad to. I think that in my year there is a group of guys who like to give their opinion on everything and it can be really annoying to deal with but I feel that it happens everywhere and sometimes in life you have to deal with people who are mean and school is no different. I think that whether you think people at a school are stuck up or have horrid superiority complexes going to school shouldn't be about what anybody else does or thinks it should be about achieving the results that you want to achieve and in terms of results you can't do much better than perse. I think that the opinion that perse is old fashioned is ridiculous and if anything the perse is far too politically correct in an attempt to get rid of the idea that the perse is old fashioned. In terms of people loosing it under the pressure that doesn't really happen at all, in fact other schools have a far worse reputation in terms of this. I actually find that all the girls in my year who were the first intake of girls in year nine are much better friends than at my previous schools. I have actually come to realise that the girls are far less bitchy than the boys which is how I would describe the way the boys behave. They compare clothes just like girls, they make comments behind each others backs and they are very clique-y in some cases. However the over all school ethos of success being cool is really good for me personally as I used to be teased about being clever but now I wouldn't get teased for it which is a real confidence boost. So I would rate the school 4 stars mainly because it is really good and allows students to achieve really good results but it's still school so there are people who will make fun of others and there is always going to be pressure to do well and fit in..
