A review of Plumbs Dairy by D Gooding written on Monday 30th of August 2010
Well done Plumbs Dairy; your efficient service is much appreciated.
I have had my milk delivered by a local dairy ever since I moved into the area in 1983. At that time there were several independent dairies delivering in the area (Ship’s, Runham’s, Co-op, Chivers Farm) to name but a few. However all have now gone leaving only Plumbs Dairy and Dairy Crest surviving against the might of the supermarket. I agree that it is necessary to pay a few pennies more per bottle than supermarket price, but there is the added benefit of having personal service at your door. As well as milk I can also order eggs, potatoes (both cheaper than the local supermarket price, the last time I checked), fruit juice, squash, soft drinks, birdseed, as well as many seasonal items; and at one time even bottled gas was on offer. The milkman also offers the community service to people living alone; that the occupant may be in need of help if the milk from a previous delivery is left on the doorstep – the supermarket won’t do this.
