A review of Sharps Bedrooms Ltd by James Smith written on Sunday 21st of March 2010
I wanted a new office building and had no complaints with Sharps Bedrooms from a previous installation in my old house, I was a little worried because I had Moben install a kitchen too and that's another story Moben = Cowboys. Anyway, I phoned Sharps and within 24hrs I had a gentleman at the house drawing up a plan and proceeding to give me a stupid quote of £14,000 and yes there was a 50% which took it down to £7000 I was shocked ! I had more wood in my old installation and that was a mere £1800 so I refused it point blank and said it was ridiculous.
The price then dropped as I was a "Repeat Customer" even though I had no proof ! surprise surprise and the price came down from £7000 to £5600 no idea where or how they get these figures from... out of the sky me thinks !
Anyway I still said not a chance sorry, then he came with a story of "oh the range you have chosen is new and we normally do it at a trial price to see if customers like it" and the price then dropped to £3400, I was still very unhappy it was only 4 cupboards 2 sets of doors and a book cabinet with a corner computer desk.. nope sorry far to expensive.
He then came up with another approach "I've just secured an order down the road, and if we can get them both fitted within the month we can do it cheaper" the price then came down to £2800 I couldn't believe he was actually doing this, I actually live in a very large house and I bet he thought I wouldn't question the price and automaticly think I would have said yes okay at the first price !! how wrong he was...
Nope sorry still do expensive, I told him I was going to get several quotes in comparison so I really would just like your best price.
After he looked over his drawings and played with his calculator he made the old "Ill have to call the office to see if they will reduce the price any more" low and behold they did !! haha I could read him like a book these sales men really do need to change there approach its getting old now.
His price dropped to £2400 I could tell he was getting close to his "Real" price now because he had stopped with the excuses, so just to recap this was his 4th reduction from a massive £7000 >> £5600 >> £3400 >> £2800 >> £2400.
I said thank you very much and we will be in-touch if it is the best quote/deal. He wasn't very happy, he had been with us for over 3 hours drank 6 cups of tea and done 2 drawings ! His last and final offer was to do it for £2100 and it would be fitted and finished within the next 2 weeks.
I was in need of a quick job because I use my computer daily for web design so I actually accepted his final offer of £2100.
The surveyor came round the same week to inform us that it wouldn't be fitted for the next 8 weeks !
I wasn't very happy indeed, I had already stripped the room bare in anticipation of the fitters starting the following week as I the agreement was with the salesman, I guess this was his way of getting us back.
I did have the right to cancel but I didn't want to, it needed doing and I was okay with the wait. I set up a temp office and waited. 6 weeks later it was fitted, the fitter came and fitted it in 1 day and he was a true professional. An excellent cant complain job.
After he left I noticed there was a problem there was a 3 draw set of cupboards instead of a proposed 4 draw set, so I phoned and they said I was wrong its supposed to be a 3. Even though I had about 4 different drawings with them clearly showing 4 draws, so I complained and complained all in all it took about 5 phone calls to get it sorted.
The sent me the set of draws 2 weeks later, its now 10 weeks later and they still have not sent anyone to fit/replace them.
Overall I would say I am very happy with the quality of workmanship of Sharps Bedrooms, but I am appalled at how they do there quotes.
I am also not very impressed with there after-care, in fact it is really bad, They phoned me the day after it was fitted to check everything was satisfactory which I thought was nice, but by god don't tell them that there is something wrong... it turns into a nightmare !!
12 weeks later im still trying/phoning to get a fitter out to finish the work. (ill probably end up doing it myself in the end, just like I did with Moben)
Pro's = Excellent workmanship by fitters.
Con's = Will rip you off if you let them, awful after-care..
