A review of Maharaja by Trevor and Claire written on Sunday 19th of July 2009
We arrived at the Maharaja and were welcomed in and were given drinks immediately, so far so good. The menu is huge, with the first page - containing starter and mains with brief descriptions of the dish. The second page containing their specials and the following pages after that had no descriptions of the dish.
We liked the sound of some of the specials but with no descriptions we decided to ask for help of the waiting staff. What followed next could be best described as coming from the script writers from Fawlty Towers. We were told that never in 20 years of his waiting experience had any customer asked for a description of a dish! All that we were told were it was medium hot and made with 100 spices - and because it was a chef special it was a "SECRET" to the waiters as what was put into the dish. The bald waiter seemed outraged by such a demanding question - us simply wanting to know a little more about the dish. He was perplexed, disturbed and lacking any knowledge of the actual menu. We left of course and we would like to discourage and warn others not to expect good customer service or knowledge of the meal (its a SECRET).
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
