A review of The Curry King by Mr Kasper written on Wednesday 3rd of June 2009
The food was fine, although the portions were small and on the expensive side. When we asked for the bill there was an unpleasant surprise. Near the top, amongst the prices for the various dishes, an extra sum had been added which we did not recognise as being something we ordered. When we questioned what it was the waiter showed us the menu with 'we reserve the right to add a service charge'. Whilst I recognise that some restaurants do this, the percent charged is usually marked on the menu, it is usually added only for large or difficult groups, and it is usually clearly marked at the bottom of the bill so that it is clear what they have asked for. In this case, I suspect they hoped that we would not notice and would leave a second tip. Also, as no percent was specified they could have written any sum and expected us to pay ( the service charge added was significantly more than 10% and we were a quiet, sober table for two). Avoid..
