A review of Varsity Restaurant by Heather written on Friday 3rd of April 2009
As lovers of Greek food, my daughter and I booked to eat here recently because of the reviews we had read about it. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed with the whole evening. My daughter had the lamb which was accompanied by a 'greek salad' and I had the Varsity Special which was pork in a tomato based sauce and a side salad of greek salad. My daughter sai that the lamb was very tender, my pork however was tasteless with no flavour at all. We were both very disappointed with the so called greek salads as they were nothing more than fancy salad leaves like rocket with a couple of cherry tomatoes a few olives and what appeared to be (and tasted like) salad cream. My experiences of greek salad both in Greece and at many other greek restaurants is chunky green leaves, sliced beef tomatoes with feta cheese, olives etc. We also felt that we were being rushed so that they could get the table relaid. The best part of the evening was the wine. After looking forward to, and expecting good food, we were both extremely disappointed and will not be recommending or visiting the Varsity again.
