A review of Lloyds TSB Bank by Nick written on Friday 13th of March 2009
I have banked with LTSB (well TSB initially) since 1986 - so 20 years or so. During that time I also banked with NatWest (for slightly longer 1975).
I dropped NatWest in 2002 when they charged me £11000 for early redemption fees on a mortgage we had explicitedly ask not to be subjected to. (I know I know I should have read the small print etc) but I can remember having the "premier advantage manager" visit me laden with chocolates and flowers for my wife to talk about investments etc. He sold us the mortgage even though we had said we have a track record of overseas assignments and a redemption penalty would be a show stopper!. No sweat he replied and we duly signed the forms etc. A years or so later - guess what posted overseas and had to sell the house and Wham! a hefty £11K redemption.
NatWest were so defensive and unhelpful even to the point of insinuating I was running a scam!. So I promptly left them and re-ignited my LTSB account. I can only say that LTSB are by far and away the most professional and fair (yes fair). I have banked with NW, Bergen Bank (norway), Societie Generale (France), Sparkasse (germany), AMEX and Bank of America. Believe me for all the mistakes they make the others are many times worse with NatWest bordering on incompetance.
That's my 5 pennies worth. I like LTSB and, in general, they are very good. The mortgage lady was sensational in arranging a mortgage for me. I won't change in a hurry that's for sure..
