A review of The Free Press by Reg Beuttel Jr written on Monday 26th of January 2009
I was an American Captain stationed at RAF Alconbury (1964-67) piloting "PhantomII" fighters but lived on Castle Hill in deference to the needs of my hard of hearing son's education.I bought a 1928 Rolls "Twenty" drophead coupe and would drive my wonderful neighbors to the Press on weekends for brown 'n mild and darts! I parked right out front--- I still have the photo ! Geoff and daughter Brenda owned the pub and Ernie and Herbert were regulars--Also Charlie Rawlinson who lived at 25C City Rd.They're all gone now and I'm on my way---but I have so many fond memories of happy hours at the Press. Of course it was very smoky then and Geoff presented me with my own tankard ! Cheers!.
