A review of The Curry King by Lamb Dupiaza and Nan written on Sunday 17th of February 2008
Ok, so we turn up having booked a table for a small group. Unfortunately we were under the impression that it was bring-your-own (as it has been for 5 yrs). Duely chastised, we were sent upstairs to the naughty table and deemed 'students' even though most of us are far too old. Once seated we prepared ourselves by perusing the nice laminated student menu sheet which consists of a few squares containing various curry sauce options and their nan [sic]. Nan King was actually quite tasty. Anyway, before ordering they insist we all pay a tenner upfront. It all felt a bit like a sit-down pub but we obliged. Then they demanded a £10 service charge from us...even though we had not been 'serviced.'Another guy then changed their story and described it as a sort of corkage... We were all so hungry and our expensive bottles of wine could not be consumed elsewhere so we stayed. We received some popadoms quite promptly but no plates to eat from. Result: a lot of mess. I don't know if that's how they do things where they come from but my brown table mate wasn't mpressed either. Go to the Kohinor on Mill Road. They are much nicer there!.
