A review of Al Casbah by L Jauch written on Thursday 18th of October 2007
We went to Al Casbah yesterday for our anniversary. We had told them before that it was a special day and requested a nice table.
We were given a tiny table in a corner which you could only reach by asking other guests to get up from their chairs.
When were were half through our main course we could hear an incomming phone call that someone asked for a table for 30people (!) in 10 (!) mins. Of course, there wasn't enough space in the restaurant, esp. as there were already 15 people on another table. Thus, they tried to get rid of all the other customers. Suddenly everthing was very rushed. The atmosphere turned into one of chair/table moving etc. We were given the bill without haven requested it and even before ou mint tea arrived which he had ordered.
The owner then even told (not asked) us to move table. And without even awaiting an answer he was moving our glasses etc. He then told us this was how it's done in Al Casbah. If we don't like it, we shouldn't come back.
When we then tried to pay, the notes were taken before we were able to put the coins on the table. Thus, after a few mins the waiter returned and told us in an unfriendly tone that we had forgot to pay 95 pence. Oh, really?!
After just one (!) hour we were rushed out of the restaurant. What a great anniversary.
To concluded: It is one of the most unfriendly and money-oriented restaurants I have ever been to. Don't go there!!.
