A review of Ugly Duckling Chinese Restaurant by Ian Joseph written on Thursday 4th of October 2007
Ordered 1/2 bottle of house white, 1/4 crispy duck, beef in blackbean sauce and special fried rice. Came to a total of £42.57.
The decor is uninspiring, the restaurant cramped. The food is average at best. The pancakes were sticky and much thicker than I am used to more like scots pancakes than crepes. The beef was very tender but the dishes lacked any real depth of flavour. Yes the portions are generous, yes you can get cheaper meals if you really and yes the service was very good (although the phone for the dumb waiter drove me nuts) however I have eaten at far better restaurants for half the price.
Definately one I'll miss next time I'm in Cambridge..
