A review of Midsummer House by Pwwt written on Sunday 15th of July 2007
We ate at MC on a Saturday in July. Stylish modern setting, with friendly staff (mainly French) who warmed up as the evening progressed, describing where ingredients were sourced, and Daniel Clifford's efforts on new recipes. The food was incredibly well presented and delicious, with some choices just stunning.
We thought there was a touch of the fat duck - apple in a test tube and little side orders of foamy stuff, but it all tasted pretty good, and the most ambitious, a sort of coulis of olives in a pudding actually worked, bringing flavours of liqourice and making your palate sit up and pay attention.
There were lots of little bits of theatre like the chocolates presentation, and the bread to go with the cheese being sliced by the maitre'd wearing white gloves, but it all adds to the general sense of occasion. The wine list went on and on, and added consideraby to the bill, which stacked up at £200 for two people. But, we will go again. .
