A review of Maplin Electronics by Turranas written on Wednesday 4th of July 2007
Ok I'm an employee (sales advisor) at the new store at Exeter, seeing a lot of bad reviews about Maplin in general. Mainly this is either employee's complaining about it being hard work or customers complaining the staff don't know what we're talking about.
Well, I've been there from the start, helping get the whole store set up. We opened on the 16th June and since then it's been great. I can't speak for any other Maplin store, since I've not been to them, but I will say that most of our customers are very pleased. Like has been mentioned before most staff members have a general knowledge of electronics and specialise in one paticular area (the store is actually divided up and we're assigned an area), but seriously, we can't know it all. Personally, I never try to blag it, if I don't know the answer to a question I'll pass the customer to someone who does.
The current pay for new staff is £5.65 ph, not counting bonus if we meet our store target. We don't get a personal commision.
Occasionally we get a complete git coming in, but that's just part of the job to deal with them and have a laugh afterwards. It's all good fun.
So those of you who don't like Maplin, pop in to the Exeter store sometime. Hopefully we can change your mind..
