A review of The Regal by Philip Kerr written on Monday 19th of March 2007
Having lived in Cambridge 20 out of the 22 years of my life I have spent my fair share of evenings in the Regal! Like most people I used to go there when I was underaged and found getting in and served to be "hit and miss". More recent visits have shown the services from the bar and waiting staff does leave room for improvement but If I worked in the regal I'd be p*ssed off too! Anyone whos worked in catering or related fields of employment know the pressures that go with the job so I am always patient when I am made to wait and then over looked repeatedly by bar staff or made to feel like an unwelcome visiter by the waiting staff. The door men, for the most part, are polite and friendly but seem to ask for ID randomly and occasionally from people such as myself dispite being a regular visiter who is friendly and chatty and clearly not under the age of 18. Over all the regal is a good place but suffers from poor press due to the mono-brow, caveman, reprobates which inhabit the establishment on a more than regular basis! The prices are excellent, Ive only eaten there once or twice and the food was acceptable! I give the regal 5 out of 10!.
