A review of The Castle by Anon written on Thursday 15th of March 2007
The Castle, which changed hands in September 2006, has gone from a dank, down-market pub to a comfortable, classy bar well worth visiting.
The Castle offers various entertainment throughout the week, including a live DJ on Tuesday nights, 2 for 1 cocktail evenings and a widescreen TV showing the football on a Saturday afternoon.
A hugely diverse and impressive menu is available and food is served until 9pm.
The Castle is expensive however, charging £3.00 for a pint of Fosters and £3.55 upwards for a small glass of wine! This combined with the fact that The Regal is next door, seems to deter some people. It is also worth mentioning that The Castle is completely non-smoking, perhaps another reason that it puts off students eager for a good night out?
The service is good and the staff are very friendly, which helps to create the relaxed and cosy atmosphere which The Castle offers.
Overall a nice place, but because of the prices it’s not the place to visit for a night on the lash-but ideal for a quiet drink and a meal, especially if you’re trying to impress that special someone!
