A review of Golden Hind by Tim T. written on Friday 16th of June 2006
I have just returned to my workplace on Cambridge Science Park after enduring my first (and last) pub meal at the Golden Hind on Milton Road in Cambridge.
I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I never realised it was possible to make such a revolting version of what has to be one of the easiest dishes in the universe to prepare - Sausages and Mashed Potato, with Peas and Gravy. The sausages (purported to be pork and leek) were the cheapest, nastiest ones I have ever tasted; the mash was very badly reconstituted powdered rubbish; the peas, of which there were about 12, were tasteless; and finally the whole dish was virtually drowned in the most watery bland gravy I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
Top that with the abrupt manner of the staff, and a beer "garden" next to the road where you can barely hear conversation above the roar of the traffic, and you have a pub meal experience that would lead me to rather chew off my own arm than endure again..
