A review of Maplin Electronics by London Maplin store written on Monday 27th of March 2006
Yes I work for Maplin as well.
Most of the staff do specialise in technical areas and we do try and learn from one another.
Sometimes we get told to do a list of things which need to be done or we wont be going home anytime soon. As a result the staff get told to act "thick" to get rid of customers as quickly as possible. I remember once the networking guy telling a customer to go to Argos because we dont sell wireless devices. This normally only happens in the last hour becasue of lower numbers of staff.
Sometimes the staff also get so overworked that when a customer asks them if they are busy they respond with "what does it look like?" Although this is funny at the time, the way the company treats staff no one gives a toss about customers.
I get paid less than someone who stacks shelves in Asda and they dont even have to talk to customers.
The biggest problem is when other stores send customers to us without checking with us if we have stock. I get really pissed off when customers come to me and start shouting at me. Ive not sent thme to my store so why have the hissy fit on me?
If theyre not in stock, what do they want me to do? I cant make it appear out of nowhere..
