A review of The Volunteer by Cancerdoc written on Sunday 12th of March 2006
I ate there last Saturday with my wife and daughter. Based on the misapprehension that it was a restaurant we took an £8 taxi ride from the centre of town. It is a bleak, soul-less pub with no discernable decor and no atmosphere. The food was bog-standard "catered" pub food and there was no sign of imagination in the cooking or presentation. Two of the three hand-pumps were off - on a Saturday night! It is neither a pleasant pub nor a good restaurant and certainly not worth the schlep out from the centre of town. Its local standing can be judged by the fact that we were the only customers in one and a half hours, apart from a bloke who came in, drank a glass of white wine and went out. It wasn't cheap, it was clean. Considering staff outnumbered customers the service was not good..
