A review of Rainbow Café by S.Acton written on Tuesday 13th of December 2005
My vegetarian daughters and I went for lunch on December 8th. The cafe was full and we were told, grumpily, to wait on the stairs. The staff did not fail to hide their irritation every time they needed to pass us by.
Eventually when we got a table and the food arrived we were very disappointed with our meal. My spinach lasagne, apparently one of their signature dishes ,had clearly come from the microwave, the edges were piping hot, the inside barely warm and the cheese sauce congealing on top. My daughters' chile was better but we were all disappointed at what passes for salad as the accompaniment, namely a few pieces of dull lettuce, a couple of slices of tomato and some grated carrot ,unacceptable in this day and age when one can expect a lovely medley of salad leaves and rocket etc.
We wont go here next year on our annual meet-up for Christmas shopping. I am flabergasted that the cafe has won an award..
